The Product

New technology has made it possible to develop High Density Polyethylene into a synthetic ice. The plastic is 100% environmentally friendly and it has been created to provide a high quality gliding surface.
With recommended maintenance and care, the synthetic ice maintains a consistent glide factor of approximately 90% for the life of the product. By comparison, real ice rinks start with gliding capabilities at 100%, reducing to approximately 80% after a few hours. In addition, real ice rinks have to close at regular intervals each day for re-surfacing whilst a synthetic ice rink can remain open 24 hours a day.
The product can be 100% recycled when it is destroyed and out of use. The product will not be affected by extreme changes in temperature. It has been tested proven that the operational temperature range of the synthetic ice rink equipment is in excess of -40ºC to +40ºC. It will not crack, splinter or corrode. It is strong and durable, plus chemical and water resistant.

The synthetic ice is perfect for Ice Hockey, Curling and other ice activities. The synthetic ice (when not sprayed with glycol) can also be maximised for activities that require rubber or leather soles such as five-a-side football, in-line skating (using indoor wheels), basketball, BMX park and skate boarding.

Synthetic ice is getting more and more accepted in the professional environment. Many skating professionals and ice hockey coaches consider synthetic ice to be an invaluable training tool. It allows instructors to hold longer training sessions, thus allowing students to learn more quickly and efficiently. It is also safer than wet ice because performance on synthetic ice results in less muscle strain and fatigue associated with extreme temperatures. Regular training on synthetic ice also helps to build up stamina and to fine tune technique, thus preparing skaters for their valued time on wet ice.

The resistance in synthetic ice is naturally a little higher than the wet ice, with both its pros and cons. The synthetic surface is perfect for beginners and others who skate for training and entertaining purposes. Advanced skaters have to work harder in order to reach the same speed as on the wet ice, but normally it just requires a short adjustment period. It is proven that the athletes will increase their durability when they get back on regular wet ice.

The pros are many, and the most important ones are:

  1. Quick and simple installation
  2. No electricity costs
  3. No need for pipe installations
  4. No need for cooling system
  5. No need for expensive generators
  6. No need for water
  7. No environmental issues to address
  8. Long durability
  9. Options to sell commercial spots on rink

The synthetic ice is available in a variety of thicknesses and designs. This includes loose laid jigsaw panels (for quick installation) or interlocking panels that create a smooth, seamless surface that can be installed on most solid, level surfaces.
